We look for students who enjoy physics, are comfortable writing code (or want to learn) and care about mechanisms. No prior simulation experience is needed.
Apply to the Ph.D. program in Materials Science and Engineering at Rensselaer and mention the Shi Group in your statement. You are welcome to email Prof. Shi with your CV and a short note on which of our research directions interests you.
M.S. students in MSE can do a thesis or project in the group. Please get in touch early in your first semester.
A dozen undergraduates have done research in the group, through independent study, URP or summer projects. Some programming experience helps, but curiosity matters more.
Prof. Shi is also the Graduate Program Director for MSE and can answer questions about the M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
